April 2006 Annual Car Show

The Classic Reflections Car Club's 13th Annual
Car Show was a huge success. Held on April 1, 2006, the show was
in conjunction with Palm Bay's annual 'Big Squeeze' event, which
features Florida's Citrus-farming heritage. Mother Nature did not play
any April Fool jokes on us. The weather was sunny and bright. It was a
perfect day to view and discuss the cars.
The
Car Show was well attended by over 75 street rod, classic and
custom cars. All registrants were given goodie bags with commemorative
dash plaques and 'stuff' from area and national sponsors. Cars were
judged in 10 classes. A 'Best in Show', a 'People's
Choice', a 'Best Under Construction' and a ' Club Participation' award
were also awarded. Each class also had two Runner-up awards.
Judging was very difficult as all entries were worthy of 'Best in
Class' awards.
Throughout the show, numerous door prizes were awarded to show
entrants. A Silent Auction, a 50-50 Raffle and an 'Elimination Pool'
were also available to anyone who wanted to participate. Also a few
games were played which delighted the children.
This Year's Commemorative T-shirts featured last year's 'Best in Show' winner a beautiful 1967
Pontiac GTO 2-door Hardtop. This year's 'Best in Show' winner,
a Custom 1951 DeSoto 'Convertible' owned by Cheryl Smith of Palm
Bay was a crowd pleaser with its full leather custom interior, modified
Mopar engine and custom tonneau cover. It even had a large stuffed lion
in the back seat. This custom started life as a 2-door sedan and was
cut into a convertible.
The 'Peoples Choice' award went to Fred Tucker's 1963 Split-Window
Corvette. This was the second win in 2-years for Fred. He did win the
same award last year. People's Choice is selected by popular vote
by all attendees of the show.
Both Cheryl's 1951 DeSoto and Fred's 1963 Corvette will be featured on next year's T-Shirt.
The 'Best Under Construction' award went to a neat
1941 Ford Custom Convertible. Once the interior and top are
finished on this car it will be a contender for class awards in future
car shows.
This year's Club Participation award went to the J.U.G.G.S. (Just Us
Guys Going to Shows) Car Club of Melbourne. They had a large group of
attendees and had a great time.
The Classic Reflections Car Club, in addition to
providing a venue for discussing the collector car hobby among friends,
raises money throughout the year for area charities. In 2005 the club
members donated money to over 12 local charities.
On the first Saturday evening of every month the
club members hold a car cruise at Andretti Thrill Park on Babcock
Street in Melbourne. All owners of classic, streetrod and custom cars
are welcome to exhibit their vehicles at the show. A DeeJay provides
music and entertainment throughout the night. A 50-50 Raffle is always
available attendees. Why not make it a point to visit the club's next
event. It starts at 6:00 PM and continues to 9:00 PM.
The Classic Reflections Car Club meets monthly on
the first Monday of the month at 7:00 PM. The meeting is held at Palm
Bay Chevrolet on Palm Bay Road.
